Sappho 31 at the Met
Odissi dance meets Ancient Greek poetry in a conversation with contemporary art
In 2021 and 2022, I collaborated with Odissi dancer Bijayini Satpathy on a piece based on Sappho 31. My recitation of the poem was incorporated into the soundtrack composed by Bindhumalini Narayanswamy. Satpathy, an artist in residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts, debuted the piece on May 15, 2022 in the museum’s gallery of contemporary art. Read the New York Times review here.
